COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been exposed to COVID 19 or diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition on the COVID 19 Notification Form (available via a link on the Student Code of Conduct COVID19 webpage). Course Information
Description Presentation of the theory, practice, and chemistry of hair color. Topics include terminology, application and workplace competencies related to hair color
Prerequisites CSME 1310, 1401, 1453, 2202
Learning Outcomes (PSLO #2) Practices all sanitary and safety measures that protect individual and public health.
CSLO-Students will have to complete Barbicide and Milady's Safety & Sanitation online certifications.

CSLO- Student will be required to explain the safety and sanitation regulations for hair color and bleach. Student will be testing on this CSLO on Bleach and Hydrogen Peroxide Exam

(PSLO#3) Demonstrates proficiency in all cosmetology skills.

CSLO- Student will be required to name the four classifications of hair coloring and will be tested on the Color Classifications exam.

CSLO- Student will be able to distinguish the difference between the three types of bleach and when they are to be used. This will be tested on the Bleach and Hydrogen peroxide exam.

CSLO- Student will be able to outline and describe the application techniques for the four major color classifications. This material will be tested on the Color Classification Exam.

(PSLO #3) Demonstrates proficiency in all cosmetology skills.
CSLO-Students will be assessed on multiple skills packets and rubrics.

CSLO- The student will be able to formulate the steps for applying an aniline derivative tint. This material will be tested during the Color classification Exam.

(PSLO #4) Prepares to pass the State Board requirements.

CSLO- Student will demonstrate the correct application for a foil placements, bleach retouch and virgin tint to darken. This will be measured on the Special Assignment Skill sheet.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies Instructor Policy:

•    I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.

•    The time clock is used for TDLR attendance verification. Each student is assigned a code to clock in; it is your responsibility to clock in and out each day.
No student may clock in or out for another.

•    Upon clocking in, all students must be in their assigned classroom or lab and on task at all times.

•    Students must clock out for their 30 minute lunch break.
Failure to clock out and in after break or lunch may result in an absence.
Students not clocking out for lunch will be in violation and disciplinary action will be taken.


•     Every student MUST have a copy of the required textbooks by the second week of class. The student will still be responsible for any assignments given.

•    Students are responsible for completing all assigned reading assignments. Read over chapters PRIOR to class even if reading was not assigned.

•    Class participation is required. It is important to be active within the course.

•    Assignments: All assignments must be submitted on the scheduled time (Online & Face to Face). Any assignments emailed after the scheduled time will receive a late penalty of -30 points.

•    Assignments, Exams and due dates will be posted on Blackboard. Check your notifications, announcements
and email daily.

•    Please contact your instructor if you are having problems with the class, material, or internet.

•    Exams:    Make-up exams will NOT be given. All exams must be taken on the day that it is assigned and within the time frame listed. Please see your instructor before the scheduled exam if there is a problem.

•    Students are responsible for all materials covered in class. If you quit coming to class and do not officially withdraw, your grades will be averaged, and you will receive the grade represented by this average.

Dress Code Policy

Black scrub top and black scrub pants, black lab jacket or vest.
A black skirt may be worn, below the knee.
Scrub pants must be hemmed and not dragging the floor.
Approved LSC-PA or Cosmetology t-shirts may be worn.
(Please refer to the Cosmetology Student handbook for additional information)

Student out of dress code will clock out until in compliance.

Cellphone policy

1. Students may NOT use their cell phone/smart watch during theory and lab time.
Cell phones/Smart Watches are not allowed on the lab floor, theory classroom during theory, in your pocket, or supply caddie.
When not in use, cell phones/smart watches should be turned off or on silent.
Students may use their cellphones/smart watch on BREAK and BREAK ONLY and in designated areas ONLY. (Theory classroom, break room, gazebo area)

2. Cell phones/ Smart watch are not to ring, vibrate, or even be seen or displayed while you are on the clock. This applies to your lockers as well.

3. Office phones and the front desk phones are off limits to all students unless authorized by an instructor.

Sanitation Policy

Students are responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of their tools and equipment throughout the day. All students are required to participate in general sanitation and patron protection before, during and after each service.


Sanitation/Disinfection Includes:

1. Wiping your mirror using glass cleaner
2.Wiping down hydraulic chair (seat and base of the chair).
3. Wiping down your station
4. Wiping down and cleaning out your supply caddy.
5. Keeping your area swept and free of hair at all times

Disciplinary Action for Cellphone, Sanitation, Classroom and Lab Policies:

1st offense: A verbal and written notification

2nd & additional offenses: A written Notification and half day suspension


Attendance Policy ATTENDANCE POLICY
Dual Credit – High School Program

Regular class attendance is important to the attainment of the educational objectives of the college. The cosmetology program has formulated an attendance policy that is consistent with the objectives of the program and the needs of the student to fulfill all necessary requirements needed.
Poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment. With this factor in mind, the instructor monitors student course activity daily.

Attendance is 10% of your overall grade, and will be monitored daily. (Online & Face to Face)

Students must clock 1000 hours to qualify for the state written and practical examination. If a student exceeds the required absences in each semester, they will fall short on clock hours for completion of the TDLR required 1000 clock hours.

TDLR Rule: 83.72 (j) Responsibilities of the School:
(j) Schools using time clocks shall post a sign at the time clock that states the following department requirements:
(1) Each student must personally clock in/out for himself/herself.
(2) No credit shall be given for any times written in, except in a documented case of time clock failure or other situations approved by the department.


Class Time:
Phase II (a.m students) 7:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Phase II (p.m. students 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Please arrive early to be screened before clocking in; Washing/Sanitizing Hands, Temperature Checked Daily, and submit Screening Form

Morning Break: 9:30 - 9:45
Afternoon Break: 1:30 – 1:45
Lab/Face to Face Time: 4 days a week for a total of 13 hours. Monday - Thursday
Online Theory / Lab: Friday - Online - 3 hours , (Assignments, Video Lectures, Hands on Related Videos) Total hours for the week: 16 hours

Students are tardy at 8:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

Upon clocking in, the student must be on the lab floor on task.

Each student is assigned a code to clock in; it is your responsibility to clock in and out each day.

No student may clock in or out for another. This is considered stealing and both students will be written up and removed from the program.

Students are responsible for all materials covered in class. If you quit coming to class and do not officially drop, your grades will be averaged, and you will receive the grade represented by this average.

• Consult with your instructor in advance if you know you will be absent, any days missed must be made up online through Blackboard, Microsoft Teams (Video Discussions), Quizlet/Quizlet Live etc.

• Texas Department of Licensing & Regulations (TDLR) mandates documentation is available for the State Inspector showing attendance, theory and practical skills for online and face to face.

• Texas Department of Licensing & Regulations mandates the completion and passing of all the registered modules (courses) to be eligible to take the state board exam.

• Lamar State College-Port Arthur mandates the completion and passing of all cosmetology classes with a “C” or better to attain the knowledge and skills needed to pass your State board exam.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  1. No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.

  3. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
